Statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman - Death penalty - November 21st [ar] [fr]

France welcomes the adoption on November 21 by the General Assembly of a resolution calling for a moratorium on the death penalty.

This biennial resolution confirms the global trend toward the abolition of the death penalty; a moratorium is the first step toward abolition. This text was put forward by a group of 95 countries from all regions of the world and demonstrates once again that the death penalty is not a matter of culture but a matter of principle.

France continues to mobilize its efforts in support of this fight, within the framework of the campaign for the universal abolition of the death penalty launched by Mr. Laurent Fabius in October 2012.
