Programme of the new French Cinema Club: the Café des Images

The Cultural Service of the French Embassy and the Alliance Française have launched the "Café des Images" March 3rd, 2014, in the Alliance Française theater in Isa Town.

The evening launch of the new French cinema club: the "Café des Images" was held Tuesday, March 3rd, 2015, at 7 pm, at the Alliance Française of Bahrain.

For this occasion, an atmosphere of movie premiere had been carefully prepared in the premises of the Alliance Française: Red Carpet to lead guests to the movie theater, famous film soundtracks were played, videos of stairs climbing in Cannes projected on the walls, and life-size figures of major French actors (Marion Cotillard, Clovis Cornillac, Juliette Binoche, Jean Dujardin).

Cultural Counselor, Dominique Chastres, opened the event by recalling the purpose of the creation of the Café des Images: discovering the contemporary cinema in France, embellished with classics, promoting the talents of the new generation of Bahraini filmmakers, and a strong convivial time discussing about cinema.

For the first session, "The Fish Trap" by Salman Yusif, a short-movie that has won the Best director Prize at Bahrain Film Days 2014 and the Naqsh Short Film Festival, was screened in the presence of the director, followed by the French film "2 autumns, 3 winters " by Sébastien Betbeder with Vincent Macaigne. Both films, revealing in their own way a high quality contemporary filmmaking, were highly appreciated by spectators.

The sessions of the Café des Images will be held every first Tuesday of the month at 7 pm, at the Alliance Française (Road 4109 - Educational Area - Isa Town). Admission is free for the members of the Alliance Française, 2 BD for non-members. A 20-minute intermission, during which drinks and snacks are offered, allows guests to share their passion for cinema, and make new francophilophone meetings.

Next session, April 7th at 7 pm, 38 witnesses by Lucas Belvaux.
