On March 21, the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters awarded its 2017 Abel Prize to Yves Meyer in recognition of his work on the mathematical theory of wavelets.
An alumnus of the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Paris-Saclay, Yves Meyer is the fourth French winner of the Abel Prize, awarded annually since 2003. King Harald V will bestow the prize upon him in Oslo on May 23.
Yves Meyer’s work has had applications in numerous areas including medical imaging and digital filmmaking, demonstrating that work in mathematics can generate concrete innovations.
This prestigious award honors France and the French scientific community as a whole.
